Appointment Fees
Fees
My fees are $1,000 for all practical tests. This is the fee for the appointment, not the outcome.
There is no longer a travel fee required when traveling inside the San Jose District. Accepted payment methods include cash or check. Credit cards are accepted and will include a $26 convenience fee. You may also utilize Zelle, PayPal or ApplePay if that works best for you.
Retest or continuance fees are $600 provided the retest or continuance only requires the flight portion. Fee’s are $750 for Instrument continuances
or a retest/continuance that also requires any re-evaluation of ground knowledge.
If an applicant does not meet the requirements to begin the test, or the airplane is found to not be airworthy on the day of the test, the applicable fee will still be charged. Remember, the fees are for the appointment, not the outcome of the test.
Non-refundable Deposit
There is a $200 deposit required to schedule an appointment. Designated Examiners are working professionals in the Aviation Industry. We take time away from our "normal" jobs to provide a service to the flying community and the FAA. When a candidate cancels at the last minute, the DPE looses a day's wages. Due to the high rate of last minute cancellations, a non-refundable deposit is required before scheduling a practical test. If the appointment time is kept as scheduled the deposit is applied toward the normal fee as outlined above.
Cancellations
As you approach your check ride date, if you or your instructor do not feel you are ready, please call me and reschedule. Everyone on your team, including me, wants you to pass. If you are not ready, then reschedule. I do ask that you provide a minimum of 10-day advance notice or you will forfeit your deposit. With the exception of a legitimate cancellation due to weather, you will forfeit your deposit if you cancel or reschedule your test with less than a 5-day notice. With legitimate notice, your deposit will be applied toward your new test date.
